FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You asked, we answered. Please review these FAQs for the general information regarding our training program.

How does my subscription support Athena Racing?

Our current focus is on the extreme growth that we have experienced during COVID and the structure that needs to be built. Our 2022 Roadmap has incredible milestones! We are starting with the launch of DRIVE and the build of Club Athena in January and continue through the year with our spring internships, summer camps, the production of our 15 Education Tracks into a “Masterclass” format and delivery system (similar to DRIVE), to our last event of the year – the STEM day conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of the STEM movement. Your subscription to DRIVE supports all of the work that we do and allows us to grow bigger and better.

How is Athena Racing involved?

DRIVE is powered by the award-winning and critically acclaimed non-profit Athena Racing. The Founder & CEO had just purchased two driving simulators for the team when COVID forced the stay-at-home orders. With her insights into what is being developed in the transportation sector, she knew that an introduction to technology and gamification was a necessity for the program. Over the past two years, as Athena Racing has continued to grow many women and parents have asked for the program to be expanded to include adults and young boys. DRIVE is the answer to that request. While Athena Racing will remain a girls-only STEM Education Club, we will start producing content that can be shared to all.

When was Athena Racing started?

The idea sparked for our Founder on April 17, 2019. With her previous start-up experience she immediately put the wheels into motion. By June 10, 2019 Athena Racing was an official non-profit corporation in the State of California. On June 29, 2019, the IRS granted Athena Racing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization #84-2096687 so that your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Athena Racing was introduced to the San Diego County of Education school system for the 2019-2020 school year. A team was chosen by November, the schools closed in March and the inaugural season had to come to an end early. Ms. Browne immediately pivoted and took all programming online. Under her guidance, the club has grown and prospered despite the global pandemic. Athena Racing now has members in five different countries!

Can I donate prizes?

Can I sponsor?

Absolutely! How better to show your support of youth and education? Our team will be happy to discuss amounts, exposure and expectations. Please contact our team to learn how you can help us build a better future for our members!

How do I donate to the program?

There are a variety of ways that you can give. Please take a LOOK and contribute what best fits your family’s budget.

Who can subscribe?

Our training is open to all ages and genders. You don’t even need a drivers license or need to know how to drive. We teach this for beginners, but also have advanced professional drivers who will help the amateur drivers improve their skills.

Why should I subscribe now? Is there a deadline?

If you would like to compete in the Championship, you should start training now. We have scheduled training, challenges and live Q+A throughout the entire year. To compete in the Aspiration Championship Cup you must subscribe to that bundle.

How is the training structured?

Much like Masterclass, our training is self-guided. You can learn on your own time at your own pace.

How long will I have access to the training?

You will be able to access the tracks or bundles that you subscribed to until December 31, 2022.

Is this for girls only?

No, our DRIVE Training series is for all genders and ages!

What age are the subscribers?

We know of some who are in elementary school and others who are members of the “Greatest Generation.” The racing sim doesn’t know your age, nor care. The average age of gamers is 35, so we expect to see a variety of ages on our “Live Q&A Sessions.”

This is online, is it safe for my child?

The training that is provided on DRIVE is private to each individual. There is no contact between subscribers. Our “Live Q&A Sessions” are only for subscribers and require registration to attend. These sessions will be livestreamed where subscribers can ask questions in the chat directly to the event producers, who will in turn ask that question of the guest and give credit to the person asking. Anyone who behaves poorly will be removed from viewing.

Do you have an app?

Our app is informational and can be saved to your smartphone. We alert you to the latest news, prizes, challenges, and weekly updates. Download the app here.

Will there be any one-on-one sessions?

We will be awarding one-on-one sessions as prizes. We will also offer a limited number of private training sessions as the season progresses. You will need to be a subscriber to be alerted to the private sessions which will be available first come, first serve.

What equipment do I need?

A gaming PC or console (Xbox or Playstation),your racing simulation “game,” a racing sim wheel and pedal set, and a headset.

What equipment should a beginner buy?

We suggest a Xbox with Forza, wheel and pedal set. It is very easy to start by attaching your wheel to your desk. As you get better and continue improving (and commit to the sport) you can level up by getting a gaming chair or racing sim cockpit with a racing seat. This is just like any other sport, the better equipment comes at a greater expense.

If you purchase these on Amazon,  please consider purchasing through our affiliate links so that our non-profit receives a commission or by choosing Athena Racing as the charity you support on Amazon Smiles.

Can the whole family do this together?

Absolutely! And we love seeing the competitive nature between grandparents and the grandchildren, parents playing against each other, dad and daughter competing against mom and son. There are so many great combinations. The important thing is spending time together while you are learning something new!

What is STEM?

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

As of 2021, Athena Racing is accredited as a STEM.org certified program.

How does racing teach STEM principles?

Automobiles and racing would not exist without Science, Technology, Engineering and Math career paths and those who bring it to life.

From the aerodynamic principles applied to the cars to the technology required to support the working systems, it takes many team members with varying skill sets and knowledge to create the final product.
